T-shirt - To Move Wildly

Bali WISE is a non-profit organization based in Bali, Indonesia that empowers marginalized young women and indirectly their communities through sponsored hospitality & life skills education and on-job training to break the poverty cycle by preparing them for a better future.

Since the program started in 2007 Bali WISE has educated and skilled 1,586 disadvantaged women, 87% of the students obtaining a fare waged full-time job within three months of graduating, the first steppingstone towards their future career, and indirectly benefiting 7,930 of their family members.

To support the foundation, PAULINA KATARINA has collaborated with Indonesian visual artist Natisa Jones who has designed the exclusive artworks printed on the T-shirts, with all of the profits from the sale of these T-shirts donated to the foundation.

To Move Wildly

An illustration inspired by my grandmother. Raising four kids as a single mother, I’ve always admired her boldness, strength and resilience. My grandmother was known for many things in her community: a teacher, a healer, a great cook. Among them, is for her love of playing chess. In the neighbourhood where my mother grew up, if my grandmother went missing, she can often be found playing chess with the street vendors down the road. She took on any one and more often than not - she’d win the game.

As the matriarch in our family, she has always allowed and encouraged us the space to thrive (especially as women) and to authentically be ourselves. I’ve illustrated ‘The Queen’ chess piece to symbolize the traits I find in my grandmother. One who plays an important, powerful role within a tribe, who moves wildly, wherever and however she pleases - all the while at times, understanding the art of sacrifice in order to protect her own.
